Jonathan & Tara Higdon
We are Jonathan and Tara Higdon, and God has called our family to serve in Panama.
Our hearts are especially drawn toward indigenous communities and the hard-to-reach places. Many of these communities are located in remote areas where getting there can mean traveling long distances by boat, hiking through difficult terrain, or carrying everything needed for the journey.
We want to go where it is difficult to go, build relationships with people who are often difficult to reach, and share the hope of Jesus with communities that may have limited access to the Gospel.
Prepared for the Journey
Looking back, we can see how God has used many parts of our lives to prepare us for this calling.
We have always loved hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, and exploring the outdoors. What began simply as things we enjoyed doing has become part of the way God has equipped us for ministry. We've learned to be comfortable traveling into unfamiliar places, carrying what we need, navigating the outdoors, and embracing the challenges that come with being far from home.
We believe those experiences have helped prepare us for the places God is now calling us to go.
Why We Go
We believe the Gospel is worth going the extra mile for.
Our desire is not simply to arrive in a community, share a message, and leave. We want to build genuine relationships, listen and learn, serve alongside others, and walk with people as they discover the hope found in Jesus.
Through our ministry, we hope to encourage local believers, make disciples, strengthen churches, and reach communities where the Gospel has been difficult to take.
We are excited to see where God leads us—and grateful that He has allowed us to be part of what He is doing in Panama.
Our Family
Our daughter, Sydnee, is now married and beginning this new season of life with her husband. Although she is building a life of her own, she remains a deeply loved and important part of our family.
We are grateful for the ways God continues to lead each of us, and we're thankful that our family remains connected even as God leads us into different seasons and places.
Walk With Us
We don't believe we are doing this alone.
Whether you pray for us, encourage us, give, or simply follow along with what God is doing in Panama, you are part of this journey with us.
Thank you for helping us reach the hard-to-reach.
